Ask Alexandra – February 2011

Question #1:

Dear Alexandra,

I was thinking about Jonathan this evening. How is he doing? Has he been released yet as I know it has been several years now and I know on the site here you mention his release date is in 2011.

Namaste
Dave

Hi Dave!

Thank you for asking about Jonathan! Yes, he was released from the Arizona federal prison on January 5th, and is now in a halfway house in Oregon, nearer to where he lives. My twin sister and I spent the day with Jonathan when he was let out, and we had a fantastic time. Here is a photo of us in the airport:

Jonathan is now working and able to have short visits home to his wife and their animals. After more than 3 years in prison in the name of animals, he is adjusting well to life on the outside. I am very proud of him. You can write to him at:

Thank you for writing, David.

Question #2:

Hi Alexandra,

I’m hoping you can help me find a copy of your made for TV movie “Getting Physical” from 1984. It inspired me get passed some serious over eating disorders and lead me on the path to becoming a weight lifter and ultimately to become a Strong man up until serious injury in 2000 forced me to retire and left me practically immobile an suffering with various nerve problems.

But now I have had my surgeries (well most of them) and I am recovering well and have been cleared to exercise once more well at least to a moderate level to recover my fitness and lose the many excess kilos I have gained whilst trapped in my home…. and I was hoping to seek a copy of the movie (as the original lasted 10 years of constant play before breaking down) to once again inspire me through the hard times as whilst watching this brilliant movie I felt your character was sharing my ups and downs and the struggles with food plans and healthy eating etc…it is something I haven’t found with any other movies

But I have had no luck could you please recommend a web site as I’ve tried all the main streams with no success.

Many Thanks and Be Happy,
Richard Askew (London, UK)

Hi Richard,

I have been asked before about how to find Getting Physical, the tv movie I starred in for CBS. The VHS copies being sold on the internet are expensive – each one $40 or more! I do not know if there are copies available which fit the European standard, and as far as I know, it is not available on dvd. I hope it will be soon, as all I have is an old VHS copy also!

Probably the best avenue is to contact CBS itself, since it was both producer and distributor. I would send a letter or an email requesting a dvd or a PAL copy of Getting Physical. I am not sure which department you should contact, it might be “archives” or “distribution”:

CBS
7800 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90036-2188
USA
Phn: 323-575-2345
http://www.cbs.com/

I am glad you are recovering from your very serious injuries, and feel blessed that a movie in which I was involved inspired you to a better, healthier life! Best of luck with your next surgery, and remember that you are not alone in your struggle to maintain a healthy balance in life. I understand completely!

Best,
Alexandra

Question #3:

Hello, Ms. Paul!

You’ve worked with Dan Aykroyd whose an SNL cast member in Dragnet. My question is: What do you think of the SNL cast members that are now one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in Hollywood? Eg: Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, David Spade, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and Eddie Murphy.

~Justin~

Hi Justin,

Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray together always made me laugh the most on SNL. They did a bee skit I saw when I was in high school which was hilarious. I have to confess that I am usually in bed by 10pm, so I rarely have watched the show! I think Eddie Murphy is great, though (some very funny scenes in Bowfinger), and I admire all of the actors on that show since I know how talented they are just to be part of the cast! I dont see alot of the comedies they make, though, since that genre of movie is not one to which I am drawn. I did love The Carol Burnett Show, though, and one of my favorite movies is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels….

Dan was wonderful to work with on Dragnet: so kind and professional. He is a class act! Both he and his wife, Donna, are wonderful people.

Best,
Alexandra
